Bus Restructure Impacts
When the Rainier Freeway Station closes, the Metro routes below will experience service changes. Please click the “+” to see the service changes coming to your route.
Routes traveling to Seattle in the morning and the Eastside in the evening (111, 114, 212, 214, 216, 218 and 219) will no longer stop at Rainier Avenue South.
Riders who start their trip at Rainier Avenue South will have access to some alternative routes at Rainier Avenue and South Charles Street. These include:
- Route 554: Operates throughout the day and late evening.
- Routes 212 and 217: Operates in the morning between 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM eastbound and the evening between 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM westbound, weekdays only.
These routes provide service to many of the same locations at the same times, but with some exceptions. Read more detailed information about each route impacts and alternatives below.
How riders can plan ahead
We would like to make sure you understand the following key terms that are critical to understanding the route changes described here and in the upcoming tabbed pages.
"Reverse peak direction"
During peak hours most riders travel in one direction. More riders travel into Seattle in the morning, and back to the Eastside in the afternoons. When we refer to "reverse peak direction" we are referring to riders who are traveling the opposite direction, e.g. riders heading to the Eastside in the morning and Seattle in the afternoon.
The portion of I-90 that connects to 4th Avenue South in Downtown Seattle.
"2nd Avenue Extension South"
A street segment extending diagonally from 2nd Avenue and Yesler Way to 4th Avenue South.
